I just listened to my daily podcasts and learned that 26% of Americans listened to a
podcast in the last month.
And it’s growing.
Radio is dying and podcasts are allowing people to talk directly to their audience
with no exclusive platform like Facebook, YouTube or Radio Station in the way.
And podcasts are more niche which I think is great, more passionate fans.

your podcast is the center of your tribe.

People can fake print best selling books. It’s a practice that has been around awhile. But, now it’s getting a lot of press.
Here is a typical example.
ResultSource arranges to pre-buy 2,000 to 5,000 copies of a title in the weeks before it is launched. All those sales are recorded in Nielsen Bookscan in the first week that the title is available, so if the title in question is in one of the smaller niche markets (business books, for example) those several thousand sales can be enough to vault a book on to the best-seller lists.
Don’t do it. You’ll look fake.
Becoming a true best seller is based on how big your existing audience is.
It’s easier if it’s an Amazon Kindle book where a smaller size audience that you ask to buy your book can make your e-book an Amazon best seller.
We give our authors the step to do an Amazon Kindle Best Seller campaign but there are not guarantees because it’s based on your existing audience size, how responsive they are to your emails (open and click rates), and if they are attracted to your book (it’s something they expect from you).
Focus on building your audience and provide them with quality content.
Don’t fake it by buying your own printed book and pretending you are so happy that your fans love the book so much that they made it a New York Times best seller.
Be careful of services that promise your podcast to be in the iTunes Top 10. They are probably using a click farm (robots or very low paid labor in China that just clicks on subscribe button over and over again).
Can a top 10 place on the Apple Podcast Chart be bought?
A company called Podcast Influencer promises to get your podcast into the iTunes Top 10 for $15,000 per month.
Podnews has seen multiple emails from Podcast Influencer to prospective clients. In it, the company claims to get any podcast into the iTunes Chart – and maintain position in that chart for any period of time.
So confident are the company of their ability to buy into the iTunes Charts that they offer a 48 hour money-back guarantee. Placings start at $5,000 per month for a top 50 listing in a podcast’s primary category.
The Newark OH, USA-based company claims, in emails to prospective clients, to be able to achieve this by ‘marketing to real people, who are prequalified podcast listeners’. Their website claims they have a ‘a thorough understanding of select algorithms’, and promotes its service as a way to give your podcast “the potential to access & create lucrative partnerships with some of the biggest advertisers in the world”.
These top 10 are not based on downloads, it’s not a reflection of the podcast’s total audience. It’s not an advertising method. The company doing this places a value of $15,000 on a top 10 listing. But, it’s worthless and only good for posturing that you have a top 10 show. It’s all fake.
I was talking to a potential client yesterday and she asked what the advantages of podcasting were.
Here are my top 6 advantages of being a guest on a podcast.
1. No travel cost
You can podcast from anywhere, literally from the beach if you want. (note to self I should do that). I would recommend a good microphone though. 🙂 But, seriously you don’t have to fly somewhere, get a rental car, stay in a hotel to speak on stage for 90 minutes. You can have your feet up and talk into a microphone.
2. Doesn’t cost you anything
It costs you nothing to appear on someone’s show. No more $30,000 speaking fees to get on someone’s stage. Just appear on a lot of podcasts instead for free.
3. Massive Visibility
That podcast that you are on will be everywhere. And people will see it, including other podcast hosts. It’s just awesome.
4. Instant Credibility
It’s like when I was on CNN radio many years ago, it’s instant credibility. The audience trusts that the host did their homework and brought on a good guest. You get an implied indorsement and it makes you an authority in your niche.
5. Bond with the audience
Podcasts are more personal than most media. Hosts are people without having to be on a big media network. It’s one-to-one with the audience getting to get a listen thru their earpods.
6. Connecting with the biggies
Sometimes being a guest or having a big guest on your show is can lead to knowing them outside the show. That could lead to future partnerships or deals.
You’re on the show giving great content and for the people that want to continue their journey with you they visit your offer that you mention on the show. And that leads to enrollment conversations and cash. Your presentation is your chance to present what you have to the best of your ability. Steer them directly to work with you.
6. Quick & Easy
Since you will talk about the same thing each time you are on a podcast it’s real quick and easy for you. You just get on the line with the host and talk. You can even give them beforehand questions to ask you. All you have to do is perform.
And even the tinest of shows have hundreds of raving fans listening.
The hosts (and their assistants) do most of the work. Guests just show up and answer question. It’s easy.

For some clients Instagram is better, especially if you are not a Business To Business type of business. If your business can be convey in photos easily then Instagram is an option you should look at.
And the for some clients running a Facebook book or webinar funnel is really good as you can target your ideal client and get them to purchase a low cost $7 item and then progress them up with an upsell or two, invite them to a webinar and offer them a high-ticket item.
Emailing people directly.
I sold a PR package to realtors in San Diego by emailing each realtor directly and got them in a conversation. The bigger profile realtors like what we talked about and some of them hired me.
It was easy.
And it didn’t require me having to pay a huge speaking fee at some event. Just the costs of my team to create all the copy and setup the system to do all this in great number. I then talk to them over the phone and sold them the package.
