Start your own publishing company

By News

Founded BlissLife Press to publish my thing and my love Nan’s content.

Along the way we have helped a few other like-minded content creators get their content out in the world as a done for you service.

My goal was to show thru the process of helping them, understand how they can continue on their own and keep publishing their own content.

You need to think like a business owner. It’s your content. Get help to get it out but don’t rely on anyone. Take responsibility.

You are your own publishing company. You may not have a company website, you may just have your author site, but you need to think like your own publishing company.

Hire an accountant, an assistant, even marketing help, but remember it’s your content and it’s your business.

Publishing Scams advice

By News

BlissLife Press is just a done for you service for outside authors so I can be honest on what I’ve seen work and not work.

Some fellow authors have shared some publishing scams they have seen and I wanted to share.

Never pay for anyone to read your book, a publishing house or agent should read if interested and then tell you if they want to pursue a deal with you.

You need to be realistic about what a big publisher can do for you as well. They don’t do much. I think it’s best people start with being an independent author and once you are pretty big and proven yourself and gathered the attention of a big publishing house then can decide if their deal is good for you.

Don’t pay out of pocket for: book festivals, school visits, writers’ workshops unless you are going to get coached on how to write, any event where you have to speak except for bookstore events where they sell your book. They need to pay you for your time.

Unless you know for sure that if you pay for stage time and you can sell a high-end package from stage. I’ve done that had made six figures. But, I’ve seen many that didn’t have a clue and lost $17,000 to speak and didn’t make a single sale. Be careful if you pay to speak. I’ve seen so many scams for paying to speak, from throttling the door to your breakout session to moving your stage time to directly after a late lunch, all to make you less money and the host more money. It got so bad that I literally thought I had to show up with a lawyer and a muscle clad security guy to make sure my speaker got the negotiated time on stage. Again be very careful.

Don’t spend a lot of money on swag. Maybe $150 on bookmarks, and get like 500 of them. You won’t need more than that. Don’t buy stickers, perfumes, buttons, or anything else as they don’t convince people to buy your book or know you anymore than they will.

Paying to be considered for an award or getting into a magazine isn’t really helpful. It’s just an ego play. Paying to be in a book can be helpful. I’ve done that a few times and did get business from it, but make sure you you align with the book and fellow authors.

Being an Amazon or elsewhere best seller can help but only if you sell a high-end product from stage. Leveraging a best selling book can help get you on stage for that. But, if you don’t have experience selling from stage, again, then I would skip this and focus on marketing methods where you make money just selling your book.

Marketing methods that work change over time. What works now may not work next year so keep up to date on what is currently working.

I hope you don’t take this article as a major dream killer. I want to be honest with you because I don’t want another author talking to me how they just lost money on something that would have never worked in the first place.

Got a question for me on what or doesn’t work then ask me on Twitter.

We are a done for you service

By News

I’ve seen some bad press about vanity press companies lately and I agree that it’s not worth the cost. And I wanted to make sure people understand that we are not a vanity press.

I founded the company to publish me and Nan’s content and over time we have helped a few friends get their content published as well. But, BlissLife Press for clients is a done for you process. All the royalties go directly to the author because BlissLife Press isn’t the publisher. The authors are.

After going thru the publishing process with us helping as a done for you service you should be able to do it again for other future content on your own.

Everyone should have their own publishing company. You may not have a company website like I do and just have your author site, but you should have your own company and publish your own content.

Hire help as needed but think like a business owner. It’s your content.

26% of Americans listen to podcasts

By News

I just listened to my daily podcasts and learned that26% of Americans listened to a podcast in the last month.

And it’s growing.

Radio is dying and podcasts are allowing people to talk directly to their audience with no exclusive platform like Facebook, YouTube or Radio Station in the way.

And podcasts are more niche which I think is great, more passionate fans.

If you want to be a leader of what you do then you need a podcast now because your podcast is the center of your tribe.

And I want to help you get your podcast out.

I’ve studied the top podcasts. Interviewed quite a few podcast hosts and even have a best selling book on podcasts. I have a perfect podcast episode template and email template for clients that spell out exactly how long for each segment and what the segments talk about.

If you want to get the the growing podcast listeners then book an appointment with me and let’s talk about doing your podcast.

Buying Your Way on to a Print Best-Seller List

By News

People can fake print best selling books. It’s a practice that has been around awhile. But, now it’s getting a lot of press.

Here is a typical example.

ResultSource arranges to pre-buy 2,000 to 5,000 copies of a title in the weeks before it is launched. All those sales are recorded in Nielsen Bookscan in the first week that the title is available, so if the title in question is in one of the smaller niche markets (business books, for example) those several thousand sales can be enough to vault a book on to the best-seller lists.

Buying Your Way on to a Print Best-Seller List

Don’t do it. You’ll look fake.

Becoming a true best seller is based on how big your existing audience is.

It’s easier if it’s an Amazon Kindle book where a smaller size audience that you ask to buy your book can make your e-book an Amazon best seller.

We give our authors the step to do an Amazon Kindle Best Seller campaign but there are not guarantees because it’s based on your existing audience size, how responsive they are to your emails (open and click rates), and if they are attracted to your book (it’s something they expect from you).

Focus on building your audience and provide them with quality content.

Don’t fake it by buying your own printed book and pretending you are so happy that your fans love the book so much that they made it a New York Times best seller.

Buying Fake Podcast Rankings Are Worthless

By News

Be careful of services that promise your podcast to be in the iTunes Top 10. They are probably using a click farm (robots or very low paid labor in China that just clicks on subscribe button over and over again).

Can a top 10 place on the Apple Podcast Chart be bought?

A company called Podcast Influencer promises to get your podcast into the iTunes Top 10 for $15,000 per month.

Podnews has seen multiple emails from Podcast Influencer to prospective clients. In it, the company claims to get any podcast into the iTunes Chart – and maintain position in that chart for any period of time.

So confident are the company of their ability to buy into the iTunes Charts that they offer a 48 hour money-back guarantee. Placings start at $5,000 per month for a top 50 listing in a podcast’s primary category.

The Newark OH, USA-based company claims, in emails to prospective clients, to be able to achieve this by ‘marketing to real people, who are prequalified podcast listeners’. Their website claims they have a ‘a thorough understanding of select algorithms’, and promotes its service as a way to give your podcast “the potential to access & create lucrative partnerships with some of the biggest advertisers in the world”.

Placings on Apple’s Podcast Chart can be bought

These top 10 are not based on downloads, it’s not a reflection of the podcast’s total audience. It’s not an advertising method. The company doing this places a value of $15,000 on a top 10 listing. But, it’s worthless and only good for posturing that you have a top 10 show. It’s all fake.

8 Advantages of podcasting, #6 is my favorite

By News

I was talking to a potential client yesterday and she asked what the advantages of podcasting were.

Here are my top 6 advantages of being a guest on a podcast.

1. No travel cost

You can podcast from anywhere, literally from the beach if you want. (note to self I should do that). I would recommend a good microphone though. 🙂 But, seriously you don’t have to fly somewhere, get a rental car, stay in a hotel to speak on stage for 90 minutes. You can have your feet up and talk into a microphone.

2. Doesn’t cost you anything

It costs you nothing to appear on someone’s show. No more $30,000 speaking fees to get on someone’s stage. Just appear on a lot of podcasts instead for free.

3. Massive Visibility

That podcast that you are on will be everywhere. And people will see it, including other podcast hosts. It’s just awesome.

4. Instant Credibility

It’s like when I was on CNN radio many years ago, it’s instant credibility. The audience trusts that the host did their homework and brought on a good guest. You get an implied indorsement and it makes you an authority in your niche.

5. Bond with the audience

Podcasts are more personal than most media. Hosts are people without having to be on a big media network. It’s one-to-one with the audience getting to get a listen thru their earpods.

6. Connecting with the biggies

Sometimes being a guest or having a big guest on your show is can lead to knowing them outside the show. That could lead to future partnerships or deals.

7. Leads

You’re on the show giving great content and for the people that want to continue their journey with you they visit your offer that you mention on the show. And that leads to enrollment conversations and cash. Your presentation is your chance to present what you have to the best of your ability. Steer them directly to work with you.

8. Quick & Easy

Since you will talk about the same thing each time you are on a podcast it’s real quick and easy for you. You just get on the line with the host and talk. You can even give them beforehand questions to ask you. All you have to do is perform.

And even the tinest of shows have hundreds of raving fans listening.

The hosts (and their assistants) do most of the work. Guests just show up and answer question. It’s easy.

BlissLife Press would love to help you get on podcast shows as a guest and produce your own podcast. Check out our podcast packages.
